His earthly work is done

1His earth-ly work is done,
The Vic-tim's blood is shed,
And Je-sus now is gone
His peo-ple's cause to plead:
He stands in heaven, their great High Priest,
In bears their names up-on his breast.

2He sprinkles with his blood
The mercy-seat above;
He seals our brotherhood
With his atoning love;
And justice threatens us no more,
But smiles as she has smiled before.

3No temple made with hands
His place of service is;
In heaven itself he stands,
A heavenly priesthood his:
In him the shadows of the law
Are all fulfilled, and now withdraw.

4And though awhile he be
Hid from the eyes of men,
His people look to see
Their great High Priest again;
In brightest glory he will come,
And take his waiting people home.
