My blest Redeemer and my Lord

Studio

1My blest Redeemer and my Lord,
I read my duty in thy word;
But in thy life the law appears,
Drawn out in living characters.

2What truth and love thy bosom fill!
What zeal and joy thy fathers will!
Such zeal, and truth, and love divine,
I would transcribe, and make them mine.

3Cold mountains and the midnight air
Witnessed the fervor of thy prayer;
The desert thy temptations knew,
Thy conflict, and thy victory too.

4Be thou my pattern; make me bear
More of thy gracious image here;
Then God, the Judge, shall own my name
Among the followers of the Lamb.

5And death, that sets the prisoner free,
Was pang, and scoff, and scorn to thee;
Yet love through all thy fortune glowed,
And mercy with thy life-blood flowed.

6O wondrous Lord, my soul would be
Still more and more conformed to thee,
And learn of thee, the lowly One,
And like thee, all my journey run.
