#72In the Silent Midnight Watches

1
In the silent midnight watches, List—thy bosom door! How it knocketh, knocketh, knocketh, Knocketh evermore! Say not 'tis thy pulse's beating, 'Tis thy heart of sin; 'Tis thy Saviour knocks, and crieth, "Rise, and let me in."
2
Death comes on with reckless footstep, To the hall and hut; Think you death will tarry knocking Where the door is shut? Jesus waiteth, waiteth, waiteth, But thy door is fast; Grieveth that His love must leave thee, Leave thee for the last.
3
By and by the night of weeping Shall be lost in day; By and by the chains of darkness Shall be rent away; But 'twill be too late, too late, When the dawn appears, For the Master will not linger When the night is o'er.
